Welcome to Words Revolving!
Getting this blog up and running after going through the challenges of website design and organization has certainly been an experience, to say the least, but I’m very excited to be able to finally start this page. I believe that before anything else, it would make the most sense for me to begin with an introduction of who I am and why I’ve started this entire thing.
My name is Brandon Natusch. I’m a nineteen-year-old high school graduate in Texas, currently working in videography, although with a side career (can you call a career that you don’t make money from a career?) of writing.
Writing has been a major aspect of my life for a long time, greatly shaping me as a person. I would have to say it really started around fourth grade, where my language arts teacher would start every class with a ten to fifteen-minute free-write session, where we were allowed to write about whatever we wanted in our class composition books.
Previously, I had been the type of kid who played pretend games and just made up long adventures with my friends at recess, so a lot of my playground stories would actually end up becoming my first pieces of writing in one way or another, since that’s really all I was going off of at the time. An example was a spy story, based on a not-so-official spy club that my friends and I were in. My best friend at the time originally came up with the idea of making it into a story with me, which we would write and act out in front of the class over the span of that school year. It would eventually turn into two stories, the original and a prequel (We had planned a sequel, but that was before my best friend at the time, who helped with the writing, moved away towards the end of the year).
After the school year ended, I started a habit of keeping composition journals to write new stories, many of which I liked to call novels, although they never got close to being that length, since they were maybe 40-50 pages of chicken-scratch note pages at best, written in script format with little to no imagery or description.
Through middle and high school, I would experiment a lot, writing scripts, screenplays, toying around with different genres, and eventually trying my best to turn my writing professional. I became the vice-president of my high school’s writing club in my senior year, and after graduating, I would find luck with a short story of mine, “The Bramblewood Sonata,” which would become my first published story and a big source of pride for me.
After publishing my second short story, “Chemical Constellations,” earlier in June of this year, I decided it would be important to create an archive of sorts for my published work, which is how this site came to be. As for the blog, I would say my reasons for starting this are numerous.
Why I’ve started this blog:
Firstly, I see Words Revolving as a way to challenge myself, to put my thoughts down accurately, and to improve my own writing skills. I also believe it works as great practice to try to be authentic, something I believe is important, not just in writing, but in life as a whole.
Next, and I would say the most important reason as to why I’ve decided to create this blog, is because I want to be able to share the things that I learn about writing and art with other people, who might find the information helpful in their own lives. As someone who would say the label of a “creative” fits them well, I understand how the creative process can be seen as confusing, complex, and just downright frustrating at times. It’s something that, at least I would say, exists as an inherently chaotic and illogical process in a world where we often gravitate towards the safety of logical and explainable things.
However, I don’t think the creative process has to be a source of irritation or stress, and I honestly believe that sometimes, the best way to act when life throws a curveball is to get help and advice from other people. I enjoy having the opportunity to be a positive force in the lives of others, just whenever I get a chance, and so I can only hope that the things I learn and write about here will be able to serve as inspiration for those who are going through the same things that I am.
What to expect from Words Revolving:
I intend to touch on a range of topics that pertain to writing, art, and just creativity in general, as well as mental health and good habits and practices. Because here’s the thing:
It’s a common saying that bad mental health makes good art. It’s a part of that whole “tortured artist” stereotype. But if I’m to go off of what I’ve lived through and my personal experience, I can say with astounding confidence that when I’m doing better mentally, my art does better as well. And I think this is something many can relate to. I believe mental health is important, which is why I want to share the things I learn along the way with others.
I also intend on keeping my blog completely free of paywalls or premiums – I want it to be available to anyone and everyone who finds it helpful!
If that all sounds good to you, then I would love to have you along and to be able to share my thoughts, advice, and anecdotes with you.
Thank you so much for reading – I greatly appreciate it, and I promise to have more on the way!
